About this Site

Rick Frazier Art Hawaii was created to consolodate a number of other sites I've had over the years. As this site evolves, there will be pages to handle most of the things that were formerly on my other sites. As these pages are made active, the old sites will be set to send traffic here, instead of their previous locations.

Initial focus will center on woodturning, glassworking and writing. Each section will show some examples of my art, along with currently available items for sale. There may also be some instructional videos on various techniques as I have time to record them.

About Rick Frazier

Rick was born in Western Washington with an inquisitive mind and a knack for telling a story. He is the oldest of six children in the family, and began telling stories as a child, but was punished for it more often than not.

He showed a high mechanical aptitude from an early age, but didn't do all that well in school until the fifth grade when a teacher in a rural school taught him that reading could be fun. Once he started reading well, he explored local libraries and found an interest in the sciences.

In high school, he was consumed by reading a wide variety of fiction, including mystery and science fiction. This lead to an intense interest in learning, which lead him into science, mathematics and a wide variety of other non-fiction topics.

He wrote and edited technical manuals during various engineering careers, then wrote over 100,000 words during NaNoWriMo in 2012, published later as a 4-story set under a pseudonym.

He retired from a multifaceted high-tech career in 2017 and is writing in both fiction and non-fiction while working as an artist in several media, currently working with woodturning and soft glass, which he sells in farmer’s markets, galleries and online venues.

His experience involves a plethora of work careers, ranging from Automotive trades, Hardware, Software and Mechanical engineering, and many hobbies including photography, ham radio, wood, metal, and glassworking. He has published under his own name on the Amazon Kindle platform as well as two pseudonyms: Penelope Pengold and I. M. Varlet. A lifelong story teller, the life lessons provided by his work experiences and hobbies provide a great background, and result in a unique approach to his writing.
His art reflects a desire to bring out the inner beauty of the materials he uses. Everything is made in his studio and workshop in Volcano, Hawaii, where he lives with his wife. In Woodturning, he is only using locally grown wood, and tends to use Lacquer as a go-to finish for most items, as it is food safe, very durable, and never needs to be waxed to maintain its beauty.
